My brother's newly installed Hitachi Deskstar HD model HDS721050CLA under VISTA Home Premium shows as RAID "“ 0 in the boot menu. How does he change this to the proper setting (non-RAID)? I went into the BIOS setup, but can't find anything regarding RAID.

You need a minimum of 2 drives to set up RAID of any kind. If you have only one drive, its not RAID but is being shown as RAID by BIOS.

Some older BIOS refer to SATA as RAID. If its working, don't mess with it.

rsinfo....thanks for the reply, but it's not working. I'm trying to load a system image from ReBit (my old HD died), but ReBit gives a message that it won't work with RAID. Exactly where in the BIOS should I be looking? [it's an HP/Compaq desktop about 5 years old.]

It should be somewhere in Advanced BIOS->HDD Access Mode or something like it. You have to toggle it to IDE.

If you can't find anything, just load the defaults & see if it works.

If there are no SATA drives in your computer you may even try shutting off SATA controller in BIOS.
