I have a compaq generic cdrw drive. The system came with cequadrat software. I hated it!!! Converted my software to Roxio Easy cd-5.0 Love it. My problem is that once I write to a cd the computer seems to hang up when it comes to reusing the cdrw drive. I normally have to reboot. I have a feeling the registry contains files that are pointing to the cequadrat software and trying to sabotage my roxio software. Anyone have any ideas about this, it is driving me crazy. I thought I got rid of all the cequadrat files.....

What OS are you using, I know I had similar problems with XP and it wasn't until I downloaded all the updates that it went away.

I am having problems using my opti-rite cd-rw drive with XP as well. I can burn a cd and then when the cd is ejected and I put another date cd in just to be read, it has problems reading it. I have Windows ME onanother partition and this does not happen. odd!!

    Hi All,

    I am running Windows 98SE with 384 mb mem and 2 hard drives of 30 & 60gb.

No other problems with the burner, just having 'ghost' hauntings with the cdrw. Once I reboot the system the burner works flawlessly. I hope it is drivers, but how do you get drivers for generic hardware. I know compaq claims it makes them, but I know they are not an oem unit.

    Thank you,

Usually you can open the case and there will be the manufacturers stamp on it somewhere, windows itself my say the CDRW is some other brand name and not a compaq, look in Device Manager.
