Burned DVD-R not playing in DVD players

Hey all,

I have a Lite-On DVD-RW SOHW-1693S that I have been burning DVD-RW to DVD-R's. For some reason, the finished DVD-R's will only play in my Emerson VHS/DVD recorder and on my Lite-On DVD-RW SOHW-1693S using PowerDVD. Here is what I use:

2x Memorex DVD-RW (I use this to convert VHS to DVD-RW so I can edit)

16x Memorex DVD-R (I burn to these hoping most DVD players recognize it)

Nero Smart Start (Use to copy DVD-RW and burn to DVD-R


I have had a friend burn movies to these same DVD-R's and the DVD players listed below always read them. Can anyone tell me why I can't get anything to read my DVD-R's? (Tested Playstation 2, X-BOX, and a Symphonic DVD player)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to DVD burning. Thanks!

I think you are on the right track already, identifying media types. From memory, most non-computer based systems were (originally) DVD-RAM. So you may have to identify:
*which formats your drive is able to use (examples, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM)
*which formats the drive you are trying to run the disk on accept.
*the media (Memorex), you can write to it, can it be read?
