my friend's pc was shutdown followed after a 1 minute timer after quarrelled with his friend. this is what he sees before the shutdown:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
my friend was told his pc would be shut down by him (the other party). and it did.

is this a winXP bug or is he being hacked or something else?

    advice?

    hello realix,

The first thought that comes to mind is whether there was an occasion to use Remote Asistance between the 2 "friends ". Having never used it, don't know if permission is needed for every session or not.

If it was a hack attack, all sorts of questions: is there a Firewall running, did the "friend" have physical access to the machine or download a "keyhole" program?

To get more ideas of the possibilties, these three sites specialize in security issues:

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php
    http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/yabbse/

I would also have your friend run a full gamut of security tests, especially the Trojan test:

    Regards - Charles
