    Hey.

My problem is that I became aware of that there was a virus on my computer, it started coming up with BSoDs. A message popped up telling me that Microsoft Security Essentials was damaged, and that I should uninstall it - I dismissed it because I thought it was the virus trying to get me to disable my antivirus. However I did eventually turn it off (by killing its process and related processes), and the computer stayed on for about an hour then blue screened within a minute of me killing MsMpEng.exe (for the second time), though that might be a coincidence.

The first blue screens were 0x0000008E, and subsequently 0x0000007E (until I chose to turn on with last known working configuration), and this new blue screen I received was:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFF80,0x00000001,0x80578F06,0x00000000)

Oh, and I forgot to say that the computer would stay on for about half an hour, or less before blue screening with 8E, then it would blue screen on start-up afterwards.

    Computer specifics:
    Media Centre Edition SP3
    Dell Dimension DM051
    CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHz
    2.99 GB of RAM

I suppose I'm asking if stopping MSSE means that my computer is fine now, and that I can go over to the malware forums?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBBS;)

Odds are the issue has nothing to do with a virus. All four of the following are very common errors. You can search here and or Google to find additional info.

    STOP: 0x0000008E
    STOP: 0x0000007E
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    STOP: 0x00000050

Thanks very much for the quick response - I'll take myself over to the malware thread, thanks again. :)
