First let me say that PeteC did help me get Slipstream of XP to SP3. After I did that on my Dell XPS 400/9150 everything appeared to be working good.

History: I was getting BSOD(s) before and decided to start fresh... SO I reformated the whole drive (250GB) and re-installed WinXP Pro SP3 on it. I did get to install IE8 on it too. So right now the only software on the PC is Windows, AVAST, IE8 and the Dell updates that were on another internal drive. I had checked and reseated all DRAM too and cleaned the inside.

(1) first PC started to the reboot loop without doing anything while I was on the internet for instance trying to download the rest of the updates for windows. So I:
(a) found a thread here that talked about renaming a driver in windows32 directory to "xxxintelppm.syx" which I did. Came back afterward and found new "intelppm.sys" there. **I hope that is suppose to happen.** I also found article on editing "intelppm" in the registry - change number to 4 and close. Did not do this yet.

(b) turned off the "auto restart" in the System Control Panel.

(2) after doing the above I am AGAIN getting BSOD with 0x7e error. One of the suggestions is to get rid of cache or shadow memory in BIOS. There is nothing in the A07 release that I have that allows changes to BIOS. This is the most current BIOS for that Dell machine.

Previously before doing turning off the "auto restart" the PC would keep going back to Selecting one of the modes (Safe, Safe w/ Networking, Safe w/ Command or Windows). If after maybe 12 to 15 tries it would go to Windows. Sometimes it will HANG in SAFE Mode if I did select SAFE MODE.

I did a HDD test and that is fine.

(3) as I mentioned I reformated the WHOLE Drive. Therefore the utility from DELL -- Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics (Graphical User Interface version) is gone. I am not sure if I can just BURN the "cdd_1284.iso" onto a CDROM w/o having to do anything else special -- like when I did the WinXP Slipstream. ?? Would this software help me at all with what is happening?

So much appreciate any valuable input / assistance here. I still have hair on my head not sure for how long tho.

Thank you !!

Previous thread here ....

http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/92799-bsod-psi-sys-0x7e.html

Your Stop Error explained ...
You mentioned that the issue arose after you installed the NIC driver - are you sure that it was the right one? That said you now say that the computer hangs in Safe Mode - Safe Mode with Networking?
Do you mean the drivers for the chipset, etc? Is the CD labelled Drivers?

The download location for your drivers at Dell is ....

An iso file is an image file and must be burned to CD using the 'burn image' command in your burning software. Simply burning the .iso file to a CD will not work, nor will it produce a bootable CD

PeteC thank you for the prompt reply... :)

This was the previous thread about the slipstream but the BSOD is not psi.sys anymore.

It hangs in Safe Mode -- not even using Safe w/ Networking. I was able to AT TIMES get on the internet so I know the NIC driver is working. MOF, It has even downloaded programs like AVAST (anti-virus) and Malwarebytes BUT when trying to download or install the UPDATES from Microsoft it will ALWAYS black screen and reboot.

Would it be advisable to try and post any logs? I have seen many instances where it is commented that no one on the boards are qualified to read them.

I do not have a Dell CD anymore BUT have downloaded all the drivers for my Service Tag. Some of the drivers I installed were:
• Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
• Sonic Solutions DigitalMedia v7
• Intel PRO/1000 Network Connections
• Dell Desktop System Software
• ATI Driver

The BIOS is up-to-date.

This is why I asked about the iso file.

What I was asking about this is in slipstreaming I had to indentify the "Microsoft Corporation.img" but for this Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics (Graphical User Interface version) ISO File I am not sure? I want to make sure I am doing it right in Nero 10.

Not sure if any of this helps...
