I have an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop with an AMD Sempron Mobile processor with windows XP and all available Security Packs.

I keep getting this BSOD and i cant do anything about it. Windows wont boot up normally without getting this error, safemode just keeps going in circles asking if i want to try a system restore or not. and all my system restore points are gone. I can still use command prompt and it works but i dont know how to use command prompt very well. Does anyone have a solution. This error occured when i was installing Kaspersky Anti-virus 7.0. by the way

I think the only suggestion I have at this time is a repair install.

Boot from the WinXP CD (you may have to change a setting in your BIOS that allows you to boot from the CD). Do not choose the option to repair an XP installation using Recovery Console when prompted, choose the option to To set up Windows XP now press ENTER.

After more files have been copied, you'll get another selection screen where you should select the current XP installation, & the option To Repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

Hmm.. this sounds like it could have a chance to work... can i use any XP disc or does it have to be the xp disk that was used to install my OS, because im sure right now it might be obvious that I dont have it :(. Im wondering if I can go to the store and they could give me one or something. I had an option once that said restore windows controllers to default, or something such as that, is that an option?

I was also wondering is there a way to get smoe files off my computer, I had a bunch of my futuramam episodes saved on my hard drive and i didnt have time to back them up in my external hard-drive, will this re-install wipe my hard drive?

Since you have a HP, when you contact them they will probably send you a recovery disk. Problem with that is using it will wipe your HD clean. To get your data off, I suggest taking out your hard drive & connecting it to a friends PC (or your own if you have a desktop PC) - you'll need a Laptop 2.5" to Desktop 3.5" IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter.

I asssume that if i use another laptop to swap hd's it should just swap right out hey? The one i would be using is another HP pavilliion lap top so that should make it all the less complicated if im not mistaken. But will the other computer crash if i run that hd on it? Or do i have to boot up on the computers hd and then open up my hd in My Computer and then just go through it like that? Thank you for the the help so far.

Unless the (hardware) specifications are the same, it could pose problems. If you want to try & get files off your laptop HD, you should consider getting a 2.5" to 3.5" converter, so you can connect your laptop HD to a desktop PC & see if you can get some of the data from it.
