    Hello,
I have an old Dell CpiR 400mhz running W2k. I tripped over the cord and pulled it off the table and now it won't boot. After a long pause on the Windows splash screen, The BSOD pops up with the message - STOP: c000026c {unable to load device drivers} \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\update.sys device driver could not be loaded. If this is the first time you've seen... blah blah blah...
I have tried to repair Windows with the disc but have had no success. Is it possible I have damaged the motherboard by dropping it on the floor? I'm hoping there is a simple fix.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

If the PC was powered up when you dropped it on the floor then my guess would be that the hard drive heads touched the platter and damaged it. The drive may not be totally dead and you should try running the drive manufacturer's disk diagnostics on it.

Or it could be as simple as, but I fear not, that a connection or plugin board has shifted under the impact.

Well, I installed a new HD and it worked. Now I'll figure out a way to transfer all the files... if possible
    Thanks
