    Using several browsers:
    NS 4.79, NS 7.01, Opera 6.05, Mozilla 1.2.1, IE 6

All seem to load up in about the same time -- around 4-6 seconds, even with splash pages. Using 1.13 MB Celeron laptop, Win Xp Home, 256 MB RAM.

Surfing speeds about same except NS 4.79 seems a tiny bit faster over most of the others (except Opera has it over NS 4.79 by about 1-2 seconds!) -- would you believe? Drawback is 4.79 can't "see" some web pages at all (neither can some of the others); simply blank. Assume that has something to do with Java and IE unique coding, etc.

IE 6 is really no better than the others except it opens more web pages. I'm wary of it's security vulnerability (Outlook/OLExpress, etc.)compared to the others; that's a big factor for me.

NS 7.01 and Mozilla 1.2.1 essentially same; speed, features, etc. So, that's a no brainer.

Are there others out there experiencing the same thing? 4.79 still has better, simpler, no nonsense, mail features. If I could get it to load all web pages I'd trash the others in a blink.

    Hi GPaDavis,

Excellent review of your browsers. I just finished installing Mozilla 1.3 alpha, and Wow! The page rendering is vastly improved, and I am thoroughly impressed! I really haven't used Mozilla in a while, and I see some major improvements over 1.2.

I run the same browsers as you listed with the exception of IE, and it is never opened.

I agree 100% that Communicator's Messenger excels in the Mail component category. I am incredibly disappointed in 7.x Mail. It seems the longer you use it, the more corrupt it becomes, and soon requires constant fixing, deleting, reinstalling, etc. I am thinking seriously of going back to good 'ole Messenger!

    My system config:
    Dell 4100
    Intel PIII, 800 mHz
    384 MB SDRAM
    20 GB HD
    Windows98SE.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Ramona :D

    Ramona,

Good. I'll wait for further comments from you on Moz 1.3. I like the layout and the general looks and feel ... but.

For now, I'll stick to NS 4.79 with mailwasher to handle my mail, play around with NS 7, Moz. but Opera 6 is good most of the time. I have one url, that I use occasionally, that only works with IE. So I keep it around for that reason. Actually, as I understand it, IE can't be truly removed anyway. Thought the courts ordered that IE be made removable? Needless to say, ah hates IE!

    Thanks for the quick response,
