It looks like your system is pointing at a proxy that either isn't there or you are denied access to.

In XP, go to "Internet Options" in control panel, select the "Connections" tab and then click on the "LAN Settings" tab. You proxy settings are defined there. For most users you can untick "Automatically detect settings ", "Use automatic configuration script ", and "Use a proxy server for your LAN ".

Vista settings are similar I think, but I can recall the precise wordings of entries.

ReggieB..appreciate the quick reply... i did the things that u suggested... there were no proxy servers defined there..the box was empty!!! I unticked the automatically detect settings; still getting the same message..

Broni...u think kaspersky is not enough?? What other antivirus/spyware do u recommend? Thanks in advance.

Kaspersky is an excellent tool, but there is no perfect tool.
It costs nothing to double check.

Also, in Firefox, go Tools>Options>Advanced>Network tab, click Settings button, make sure "No proxy" is ticked.
