My Computer developed a quirk and I can't seem to put my finger on it. The system lock up while i am viewing information on the internet. once locked I have to do a cold shutdown, Ctrl, alt, delete or excape while not stop the lockdown.
I don not get a messagfe that a fault has occurred, just locked down.
Could it be a browser setting? I have no idea what may be the cause, or where to start looking. Anyone able to help?

    Choochoo,

It would help to know what Operating System you are running, and what browser version you are using, as different browser versions of IE aren't exactly the same. :)

    Choochoo,

I am not very familiar with Milineum Edition, but I think you can do an IE repair on it like can be done with 98.

Hopefully you have the same program Menu.

    Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information.

Then go to the Tools tab at the top of the tool bar & click. If there is a Repair Internet Explorer Tool Kit, or something to that effect on the pop down, click on it. On the next dialog window choose Repair Internet Explorer. DO NOT choose any of the others. It will tell you some stuff, then ask if you want to proceed. Say yes, or OK, whichever applies. Next it should start the repair & soon it should tell you that it will need to re-boot to finish the repairs. Say OK.

If there is not a Repair Internet Explorer Tool Kit where I said, then the problem will be more difficult to try to solve, and as I said before, I am not very familiar with Melenium Edition.

This happens to me also -seams to be a resource problem & or mouse. if you have animated cursers on turn them off,use standard setting's.

the repair option for IE in a win me system is in the addremove
    applet in control panel.
depends on the version of ie you have ?
open an IE go help and then about ,, versions and critical updates are listed there .
    What's your's ?

in control panel go to addremove find IE on my pc its ie6sp1 and internet tools , choose uninstall then you'l have an option to repair.
Id update it and you'r win me also --

In an IE would you go tools > internet options > setting's > view objects, what's there ?
everything should say installed ,if not r/click and choose update,
before that though tell us what is there ok ?

Ps ive updated and repaired and still (not very often though)
gets frozen up , nothing to do but first wait a minute or so first and then push the pc off button restart and let scandisk do its thing.. and reconnect....
do you use spybot and or adaware ?
how much memory is installed ?

    Good luck

Be sure to keep temporary intenet files -history and cookies cleaned up----deleted

Tools internet options [delete files] on the box popup mark to delete also offline content [clear history]
    [delete cookies]

remember to always write passwords down for any sites that require them--so you can delete cookies !

These items seam to get currupted sometimes and couse
    casos and seamingly unrelated problems...

" " once locked I have to do a cold shutdown, Ctrl, alt, delete or excape" " "

Next time try the stand by buttn on the keybourd if you have
for someodd reason this works for me ------sometimes
and go to win update always set a system restore point beforehand just in case---sometimes they couse even more problems..(patchs-fixs updates)
Good luck , post back if more problems arise
    Lonny
