What is the recipe to rid the screen of the AOL symbol (advertising) that always appears, when browser is open, in the upper right corner? No longer an AOL subscriber. Went broadband. Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Lis--If you do not get any better ideas, I believe you have to go into Registry and do an Edit|Find find on BrandBitmap. You will probably find at least two keys (SmBrandBitmap and BrandBitmap) having to do with AOL. (You may find others having to do with Microsoft. Leave them alone.) Also do a find on BackBitmap.
Take the follow steps for those keys having to do with AOL.
Back these keys up and then right click on the alphanumeric code for these items in the right pane, click Modify, type Default and click OK. That should restore the Microsoft globe, Windows' Default Toolbar Icon.
If you do not want the globe, either, look at Throboff.zip which you find here
    http://toastytech.com/files/throboff.html

If the above does what you want, great. If not restore the backed-up keys.
Is the name AOL in your IE Title Bar (usually the blue bar at the top)? If yes, and you want to get rid of that, post back.

Lis--I hope your further question means my first suggestion worked.
To remove AOL from your IE Title Bar you can
    1) Use this freebie program
    http://members.aol.com/don5408/reg/dbrandie.reg
    or
    2) Go into your Registry (Don't know how much experience you have with modifying the Registry. It really is not hard, but if you mess up you may really clock your PC. It is therefore recommended that you first back your Registry up.)
    Start|Run|type Regedit|click OK
Click the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, click the + next to software, click the + next to Microsoft, click the + next to Internet Explorer, click on the Main folder. Look for "Windows Title" in the large right hand window. Right click on it and (see (*) below for alternative) click Delete.
I think you will then need to reboot (maybe not--you can test it right away by opening a new browser window).
Now, using either 1 or 2, you should have the Default setting of "Microsoft Internet Explorer" in your Title Bar. If you do not want that you can at point (*) change the AOL to any text you want. Instead of clicking Delete per above right click on the Windows Title value (what's to the right of the words Windows Title), click Modify and type in whatever you want (like "Lis "). Click OK. Again you may have to reboot.
Now don't tell me your Outlook Express Title Bar still has AOL in it.
