    Hi,

new to the forum so not sure if this is something anyone can answer but it's annoying SWMBO so I'll try anything!

She has a Brother printer/scanner (I forget the model number but I don't think it's important). The software ( "control center 2 ") that comes with it has a 'scan to email' function. She has her Outlook 2003 set up to use Word as the email editor and has a nice template for a new email, with her signature and spell checking and macros all set up to make sending emails quick and easy.

However, when she "scans to email ", the email editor that the scanned attachment comes up is the bog-standard Outlook one. Vis, no signature, no macros etc.

Anyone got any ideas or experience? We've tried emailing Brother support but Hell's getting a bit chilly and we still haven't had a reply!

    Thanks

    K

Does the scanned doc need to be spelled checked?

Couldn't she just click insert signature and be done with it?

Yeah, I would think she could go to the signature tab under properties and be done with it. However, at the same time, you referenced Control Center 2 which would indicate that she might have had some problems setting up the brother software initially (Otherwise it would be listed as Control Center). You may have to uninstall all of the brother software, remove all associated registry entries, boot without the printer attached and then do a clean installation. This isn't an easy task because of the software involved and the many many entries that are going to be left on her machine when you attempt to remove the printer and uninstall the brother software.

What she normally has to do is type a bunch of accompanying text to go with the attachment (which tends to be a multi-page legal document). So, to have all the 'aids' (that she's used to) taken away is just plain annoying (for her!).

Yeah, we had to upgrade to CC2 (I think it was to get the scanner working at all with O2003, but my memory's a bit hazy on that!). I'll try doing an uninstall, as you suggest...

You are going to need a registry cleaner like RegSeeker so that you can search for and remove associated brother entries and then you'll have to manually remove additional orphans. This is not an easy task so if it sounds unfamiliar or like "new turf', my suggestion is to leave things as they are and live with them. I've been through this Brother type thing before with their all-in-one printers and its not for the faint of heart.

Go slow my friend - you don't need to trade a minor issue for a major problem. And, although someone else might be able to walk you through this on the board, without having a brother all in one installation in front of me, I won't be able to provide you with much assistance.

The following may prove useful IF you choose to uninstall the printer. Please follow any guidelines per Brother website.

Thanks all. We're mulling over, Clint Eastwood-style, how lucky we feel!

:eek:Go ahead, make my day ..............

Give Dennis L's link a try after unplugging the printer from the computer and then going through add/remove programs to initially purge the "Brotherly Stuff ". After that and, once you've run what Dennis L found and rebooted, you can then follow with RegSeeker and search for Brother entries and remove all found. Then reboot and try reinstalling your software.

I was toying with a different approach and this is separate from the other suggestions. I suppose she is using a modified template, whereas, the Brother application tells Outlook to use the standard template. You might be able to replace the standard template with the modified one. That is, change the name of the standard template to say Backup.oft and save the modified version as the standard.

I put the terms "Outlook template" into a websearch and found lots of info, eg:
    http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/web/54D8422BB002B5E2CA256E910010165C
Note what it says about disabling Word as the editor.

The long (?) way...make a folder in My Pictures and call it Scan Temp, save the scans there. Open the modified template in Outlook and just attach the scan. Empty the Scan Temp folder regularly. Maybe this is how it needs to be done now.

You could think about these, but try that uninstall and reinstall.

    Matt
