    Hi,
My friend is running Windows ME. She has been trying to SCAN DISK her computer but every time she does, she gets an error message that says the computer has started 10 times. She has shut everything down and nothing is running in the background and she also does not have the screen saver on.

I told her to run the scan disk in the ms-dos mode. She did try this by going to start, programs, accessories, ms-dos mode. When she tried to run scandisk in this mode, it did the same thing.

We then wanted to try to run the scandisk after we restarted the computer and tried to bypass Windows and open up the MS-DOS mode but couldn't find out how to do this.

Is there a way to boot up the computer in MS-DOS when we are using the Windows ME.

    Thank you for your help.

    Jean

Have you tried booting with a win98 floppy? That should have scandsk available and should work if you have a FAT32 partition.

    Msdos

Boot in safe mode by tapping F8 during boot. Then run Scan disk or defrag. Reboot normally after the operation.

Thank you all. She was able to boot up in safe mode tapping the F8 key and completed the scan disk.

    Thanks again for your help.
