    Hi all

I just built a mate a new computer last night. It was a first time using a SATA drive, everything went smooth but when it boots it comes up
IDE Channel 0-5 then it has a none beside that(only got dvd writer on IDE), then it will give me the option of either press (a letter i cant remember) for booting into bios and searching for raid settings (or something to that effect) then it will boot to windows. Is this normal as it seems to take a little while longer to boot (prob 10secs more)

    ** i hope this makes sense **

    System Specs
    Intel Pentium4 3.0GHz CPU (#630) with Cooler,
    Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G Motherboard,
    1024Mb Adata PC3200 DDR2-533 (Dual Channel),
    1 x 250Gb Western Digital WD250 SATA2 Hard Drive
    WIN XP SP2
    Albatron 7800 GTX Graphics card

    Cheers

    Matt

if u install and wish to boot to a SATA drive u pretty much MUST do an 'f6 install'. read the docs on the sata drive or controller and then get the proper driver disk prepped. then reinstall and hit F6 when u see the notice.

if the sata in on the MB, u'r MB maker will provide the drivers

Yes its normal. When the computer boots up the BIOS has no info about any RAID drives and it must search for them. On some motherboards you can disable the option in BIOS but in most it searches anyhow.

    It should.

In my BIOS (ASUS A8N-SLI Premium board) there are separate entries for RAID & SATA.
