    Windows cannot find 'C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{1E2F8~1\setup.exe'

I have been having this stop message show up the last few times I have turned on my PC: Windows cannot find 'C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{1E2F8~1\setup.exe'
I ran "Spy Sweeper" and found the usual junk. I rebooted and it came up again. I ran AVG anti-virus and it found nothing. I looked in msconfig and didn't see anything that related to this message. I just started looking into this. I haven't consulted my XP Bible yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did any software you installed recently fail to install?

I think an HJT log may be in order here ....

Please download HijackThis through Quicklinks in my signature and save it to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT - not to the Desktop or a temporary location. When entries are fixed with HJT a backup is made to the folder from which HJT is run and this must be in a permanent location.

Open the folder in which you placed HJT and double click on hijackthis.exe and select Scan and save a log file - this will be saved in the folder from which you ran HJT.

    Please post the log here.

I couldn't find my old thread. I have had this problem for about a month. When the systems boots I get an error mess. of: C:\PROGRA~\INSTAL~1\{1E2F8~1\setup.exe'.
The last time I posted this someone suggested to get (Hijack This) program which I did. The program worked at showing me what was booting and giving me the option to remove it. But it keeps coming back. I know Installshield is part of Windows. So what can I do?

    Hello Lee,

It sounds like a installer that wants to execute a setup program no longer there.

Try using the Installer CleanUp Utility from MS http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 is something like an Add/Remove that removes installers.

If this particular installer shows up, highlight that line only and delete it.

And do download autoruns per Bill, look first under the Logon tab.

    Regards - Charles
