    Ok,

I normally Ghost all my hard drives using mapped drives to network shares using GhostCast.

But I have a new small project..

I have sysprepped a machine with all the drivers / apps neccessary and then I ghosted th machine. I now have the .gho image ... I just need this last thing...

For this project I need to create a bootable image i.e I put the DVD into the Drive push a few keys (menu system?) and it then installs..

My mind is at a blank any help will be of great value!! :D

I am using Symantec Ghost Solution Suite over a Domain environment

    Cheers!

A win98 boot disk will do what you want. You can find ISOs of that all over the www. I made my own. After boot, at the prompt I just type d:\ghost\ghost and away I go. I have it setup so d:\ is always the first detected cdrom device. Best to make the ghost files include all needed drivers for sata, cdroms, usb & network if you'll need them.

Is there a way to do it without a boot disk....

So I just put my dvd in and install...

I have seen some images that has a menu come up and asks you the image you wish to install (if I had multiple images..)

You need a boot image on a cd to boot it. If the bios detects no boot image on a disk it will try the next device in the boot order. Next, you will need an operating system on the bootable cd, one that Ghost will run in, either MS DOS or PC DOS. See this:

I have used older versions of ghost - ( ghost 2003 i think) to create bootable ghosts of hard drives on dvds
It is a fairly simple procedure .
The ghost program creates a bootable dos type disc or diskette
    You then boot from that
you are asked to you want to create a bootable image > yes > compress > no > is the ghost bootup in the drive ( i usually use a diskette) yes > proceed

    it is fairly straightforward

    several points

    1) dvds are very easy to scratch
    versus cds

keep the dvds in protective sleeves and if possible make several copies of the ghost

    2) be carefull on labelling
a wrong pen type can bleed

lastly the bootable ghost programs are working outside of windows . They work well

You could also ghost to a hard drive and keep it as well
Just slave up a hard drive in the dvd spot
It is faster to restore than a dvd format
