    Hi All
I am trying to sort out a pc running XP pro.
The computer will not get to desk top before the monitor goes off (standby) i can boot in safe mode (all way to desk top) but not normal mode. I seem to remember it happening to me once before but i cant remember what the problem was now. I have tried couple other monitors but its just the same. have reinstalled windows so drive is clean with the thought it could have been drivers but its made no difference.
    Any ideas

I'm thinking graphics as it will run just fine in safe mode with minimum running, couple other things happend to make me think that to.

    Thanks

    Hi Again
in the event viewer its telling me of an error. (The driver nv4_disp for the display\divice\video0 got stuck in an infinite loop, This usually indicates a problem with the divice itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorectly, Please check your hardware device vendor for and driver updates.

    ideas?

    Hello Stitch,

When you reinstalled Windows, did you install the motherboard/chipset drivers (also check for updates for the chipset drivers)? Edit: a little hard if the monitor goes blank :), but these will be important as well. After installing those you should install the drivers for the graphics that were supplied.

In Safe Mode Windows is running standard graphics drivers. To run standard drivers in normal mode you will need to uninstall the Display Adapter in Device Manager (and you may as well uninstall any nVidia software in Add/Remove Programs as well). When you reboot and the New Hardware wizard runs, click Cancel. You will then need to run the most appropriate version of the driver installation program (chipset then graphics). When you reboot, if the New Hardware wizard runs again, direct it to the drivers CD or where any updated drivers were unzipped/decompressed.

    Matt
