Since installing SP2 on my XP Home system, the boot progress indicator color changed from green to blue.

From what I understand, originally XP Home had a green indicator while XP Pro had a blue one.

I wonder if Pro color has changed also now and if so, what to?

You must realize how important this is! :D I'm just curious to see if my results match all others or if somehow my progress bar got corrupt and thinks it's Professional grade now. :)

On PRO the color is still blue but it no longer says Windows XP Professional, only Windows XP and the copyright dates were updated.

I guess it's the same "picture" on HOME, some kind of rationalization from SP2.

Thanks Christer for that bit of info. Now I'll be able to sleep soundly again. :)

Perhaps there are many other little system status indicators like that and we just aren't aware of them. Ya think? It could be an untapped resource that would shorten the job of any Support tech. by just getting a report from the caller as to what color or what text was on some particular line of a default screen. A picture speaks a thousand words! (I didn't make that up :) )

    Best regards.

The fact that we are NOT aware of most little titbits in Windows is the reason that we sleep at all ...... :D ...... !

I think yellow was reserved for "Bootleg" copies of XP. :D

Just kidding and thanks for the input. I'm now wondering if my green indicated a FAT32 file system, which I had. Perhaps NTFS systems all have yellow indicators. Just another MS mystery.

    Hey 'dude,

I run FAT32 because I dual boot with WinME. Yea, another mystery.

PS: everytime I see your name, I'm reminded of a Jeff Bridges movie about bowlers - the name escapes me at the moment. Bridges played a character named the Dude. John Goodman was in it as well.

Some of the lines and scenes are priceless: "let me tell you about the Dude" in between puffs of "not tobacco" and John Trantino licking a bowling ball.

    Regards - Charles

No offense taken. I'll have to see if I can get that from the local video rental. Sounds good.

Actually my surferdude comes from the nickname my family hung on me coupled with surfing (w-e-b- type and not w-e-t type).

    Regards.
