    When I boot up, on the Black screen,

    This statement appears:

    Boot.INI not found
    Booting from C:/Windows/

    How can I make the computer boot from where it should? What is Boot.INI and where can I find it. How do I restore it?

    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

    Boot.ini is a protected operating system file in C:\ - go Tools > Folder Options > View and check show hidden files and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System files.

    It should look like this :

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    Assuming that you're able to boot into Windows, you can also check to see if it actually exists by clicking on Start > Run, typing msconfig, and clicking on the BOOT.INI tab.

    If it doesn't, you can create it by opening Notepad and typing what Pete describes, then saving it as Boot.ini and placing it in your C: folder. Timeout=30 is the default, but you can use less ... I use 3.

    BTW, the "S" on the fourth line actually belongs at the end of the third line.
