I have been in computers since early S/360 and DEC machines and building my own PCs since late 1970s. My OS work start with DOS and Unix but I have been working with Windows for the last 20+ years. Unix had no pretense that anyone but geeks should apply and with its small/closed initial community worked well with little drama.
Windows is fun to work with *because* of the ease of use - it invited all comers and as a result created and supports a huge industry installing, administering/configuring, tuning and repairing Microsoft software (and the hardware it runs on).
Windows supports a large set of ISVs and Microsoft partners - I am grateful!!
