I just purchased and installed Gainward GeForce3 Power Pack. It leaves me with 4 blue screens and no access to that drive out of safe mode. I replaced the old video card to access my 2nd drive. The blue screens say:
    fatal exception 0E @0028: DDB51C79 in VXD MCSCAN32(01) + 0008CC79
    Fatal exception 0028: DDB51C79 in VXD MCSCAN32(01) + 0008CC79
    Fatal exception 07C4: 013F268B
Fatal exception 0D @ 0246: 013F47FB (I understand that this last problem can be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling McAfee Virus Scan.)
I uninstalled as much as I could find from the CD to get rid of whatever caused the problem.
I have a 350MHz Pentium II with Windows 98. I plan on upgrading that to an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and a new mother board, but haven't done that yet.
Any suggestions on how to address the blue screen problem?
Any suggestions on how to locate everything downloaded onto my hard drive on a particular day (so I can remove whatever I missed)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Barry

    Problem Fixed

The problem occurred due to my installing software without disabling McAfee VirusScan first. I fixed the problem by uninstalling McAfee then reinstalling it.

Not an ideal solution, but set up Windows Explorer to show 'Date Modified' and 'Date Created' in the columns of the RH pane. Right click on column heading to select - works for XP - not sure about 98, too long ago!

    Pete,
Thanks for the suggestion, but, even with the dates, most of what was installed or downloaded isn't even recorded there.

    Barry,

If it's on your hard drive - it's in Windows Explorer - somewhere!

If it ain't in Windows Explorer then it ain't on your hard drive!

The big problem is knowing what to look for :D

A disk and registry clean up would seem to be in order - to save my (single) typing finger from too much grief see this post from Mike Flynn for details.

As you are on 98 ignore cleanmgr - this is XP - there may be a disk clean up tool in 98, but I don't remember. Also ignore RegScrubXP - not for 98.

This should clear all traces of partly uninstalled programs in both the registry and on the drive.

I seem to recall that Cleansweep had an installation logger, butI might well be mistaken. In the absence of any other replies try a Google search.

Posting a new thread on this subject would help a lot.

    Pete,
I already do this. I just thought it would be handy to be able to access all downloads or installs done on a particular date. 98 Explorer doesn't seem to be set up for this. I have no particular need for it at this point.
    Thanks for the help,
    Barry
