Everytime I start windows, when I click the user to log onto, the screen goes and restarts so I can only run it in safe mode. Wondering what kind of scanner I need to use, and what kind of logging you guys need for me to fix this blue screen random rebooting problem??
    thanks

Vista is usually set to restart automatically after a system failure. you'll never see the error with this either. see if disabling this at least allows you to see what the error is.

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsvista/ht/arestartvista.htm

also when booting there should be an option for a startup recovery program... I forget the Fkey... 12... maybe it's 9... I forget  ? Try running that and see if it fixes it.

Enter Event Viewer into Help and Support. In Event Viewer you should see the "critical" event and be able to check the details.

This should identify a software startup problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

The other area is drivers being loaded at startup. Check in Device Manager for any error messages to start with. Were there any changes made to hardware when the problem started? Disconnect all added hardware.

At the startup menu (F8) there should be a selection to "Disable Automatic Restart ". This should allow you to see a Blue Screen error message and you can record the details.

ok I disabled the automatic restart, then whenever I would try to log in it would say Logging off and restart the computer still. Or I would get a blue screen but with no error message. So I decided to do the System Recovery Program, did that, and the computer froze at 32% for a full day, so I restarted the computer and used the recovery discs I had to complete the failed process. Now finally I have an error message, yet I still cant log on except for in safe mode. Heres the details of the error message it gave me:

    PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

If problem continues try disabling the BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

    Techinical Information:
    STOP: 0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x000018B2, 0x00000000, 0x00000001)

I also forgot that while in safe mode Vista tries to solve the problem itself but fails to, Im able to see more details about it and this is what is said:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:

    OS Version: 6_0_6000
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:

    C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-83522-0.sysdata.xml
    C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Temp\WER7196.tmp.version.txt

I was installing Win XP on a new system and getting the restart problems. The error message read the same as yours "...disable caching... ". I was about to remove the motherboard and test it outside the case, but decided to try disabling onboard hardware first. In the BIOS settings I disabled the onboard audio and found a setting for an onboard modem, but I can't see that it has an onboard modem, I disabled it. There has not been any hint of problems since and I decided to try enabling the audio again, it works.

As I said before, remove any added hardware (PCI cards, USB devices, etc), but also try disabling onboard hardware. You might see settings for audio, LAN and USB. You can disable them all and see if that fixes the problem, then re-enable one at a time.

well, i have not added any new hardware except for a digital camera about 2 months ago, and KINGSTON DDR ram like right when I got the computer like 5 months ago. I tried taking that stuff out and still no luck. Then i decided to use the System Recovery tool, did that and the computer froze at 33%, for fear of messing it up more I let it sit for a whole day hoping it would unfreeze, it didnt. I restarted the computer and it couldnt run because most of the computer was erased. I found my reformat discs thankfully, they finished where the System Recovery left off but still had the same problem. Tried the System Recovery again and it actually worked this time, but still same problem was there. Then I decided to reformat with my discs I recieved, and what do you know, it worked. The computer was brand new again, but slow seeing that there is a Celeron processor in it and only 512mb of ram. I put my 1g stick back in it and it was fine until I restarted, then the same problem AGAIN. I took the Ram out, and then it worked again.

I am currently running it without the added 1g stick of Kingston DDR ram and only on 512mb, but this ***** because I need it to go faster, any thoughts on why this ram is not working, or other ways I can speed up this computer?
thanks a bunch for taking the time to read this.

It seems like the BIOS is having trouble with the RAM. Maybe I am misreading, but have you tried the Kingston RAM on it's own?

You can put your motherboard manufacturer and model in a search at the Kingston website:
    http://www.kingston.com/
See if it recommends the model of RAM that you have.

You can look up your motherboard model at the manufacturer's website (just find the specifications) and see if the RAM you have is suitable. If you are running, say, a module of PC2100 with a module of PC3200, the mobo might not like it. Look for if the motherboard runs ECC or non-ECC RAM and maybe even buffered or unbuffered might be an influence.

Some motherboards take specific types of RAM.

If the type of RAM seems correct, the RAM itself may be faulty. You could run the diagnostics in my signature.
