    Hello everyone!
My computer crashed so I had to obtain Windows XP bootable CD. My problem however is that at the boot up format stage, after the initial message about whether or not to hit any key to boot from CD, a message momentarily displayed which states windows is checking the configuration, and then suddenly disappeared. The next minute everything becomes blank, no pointer, no cursor, Nothing, and it stays that way. Any idea what I should will be appreciated.

Thanks alot PeteC for ur interests. I am going to take a look at Disc Diagnostic Software you mentioned. I however would like run over the initial problems like u requested.
The crash happened when windows wouldnt boot. At start up, I started to have the following error message. error (0xc0000005), The application failed to initialize properly, click OK to terminate operation.
I sought information on how to fix, but all advice was that disc should be formatted. Initially, I could use the same bootable CD, but then I chose to repair instead of formatting outrightly. Just when I had thought I had the problem under my belts, at the same I could boot normally, I was asked for administrative password. I tried troubleshooting with the normal procedure of booting through CD, to remove or change administrative password. But then I still couldnt log on even with my new password as I kept getting an error message about "the domain you are trying to access does not exist ". This led me to want to format the drive fresh. Now I tried to format, however, it wouldnt take me past the stage I mentioned in my original post-Blue blank screen when formatting Windows XP.

Error 0xc0000005 can be caused by a number of prolems and my best suggestion to try and overcome your current installation problem is to check your RAM .....
I cannot find an answer to that :(

Have you checked the hard drive as I suggested earlier?

    Thanks Petec,
I attempted downloading some disk diagnostics software (e.g. sdiag_23.zip 359KB) from another computer since mine's crashed as suggested by you. I however noticed that since the soft wares are in exe. form, they can therefore be used only on the computer in which they were downloaded. As you will recall, my computer is down, and I was in the process of formatting when I discovered it wouldn't get past the initial stages with the windows XP bootable CD. This is my problem.

Most disk diagnostic software can be run on boot from a bootable floppy/CD - essential when Windows is kaput. What is the make/model no. of your drive?

You need Sea Tools for DOS which will produce either a bootable floppy or a bootable CD - choose the version you prefer from the download page - you need to register with an email addy only.

    Read the tutorial first.
