    Hi good people

    when opening a local GIF using IE (my default), IE first flashed the words "Blow Out" quickly, then consented to open the GIF - but when it did so the maximise button was greyed out

    it only happened once :mad: cannot get it to repeat

    only other thing I have noticed is that the "Open With" list seems to be appearing slower than it should.

    so, downloaded a fresh HJT half an hour ago and:

    Hi Hugh,

    Only one suspicious entry.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///E:/web/holt.htm

    Recognize it? Your own start page perhaps?

    Hi Dave

    many thanks for the checkover

    yup, holt.htm is merely a homebrew start page (sorry should have mentioned that first off)

    still have not been able to get the behaviour to repeat

    ==

    have run Adaware - nothing significant; Spybot next I suppose - can't see what else to do

    ==

    if it does it again, my finger is going to be on the PrintScreen button like greased lightning...

    best wishes, HJ

    not a hijack, just a popup

    ...finally found it (in History trail) - was just a popup (56kB) which gets past the Googlebar

    a popup which "queues" to go into the next IE window opened? Hmmm. Or just very unfortunate timing...

    best wishes, HJ
