    Not sure, But I did it this way....:)

    I made a folder off of my root directory, main HDD but secondary partition.
    Copied the entire Windows XP CD into the Folder.
    Then using Explorer while ME running, launched the Install Setup program for Widnows XP.

    It asked me if this was an Upgrade, I said yes, It asked me for my XP Key and after that was fed in It upgraded.

    short sweet and very simple....:)

    Yes everything

    On your root, if you can make it.. partition it so that C: has two partitions. a C:\ and D:\ make the D: partition the same size or maybe a little more so than the CD for Windows XP maybe give it about 2-3 gigs is comfortable. extra configuration files saved here as well, downloaded driver updates etc etc

    Otherwise proceed with this in the C: Drive

    Partition to D: making in X: = D:
    No Parttion then making X: = C:

    X:\WindowsXP Created folder

    Now then expand this window so that you can see this folder and all drives on your computer, size this window so that it occupies the top half of your screen.
    open 2d explorer window and size it to fit the bottom half of the screen.
    click on the CD-Rom drive with your Windows XP inserted.
    i.e.
    A:
    C:\Main drive
    D:\Partition
    E:\CDRom with WindowsXP

    When the WindowsXP CD is clicked on in explorer mode, you can see all the files.

    CTRL-A highlight all files and folders in this window.
    CTRL-C Copy all files folders in this window to the Clipboard.
    Move the cursor to the top window where you created the new folder on the X:\WindowsXP. right click and paste everything but EVERYTHING into that folder..
    i.e. after copying you should have:

    A:
    C:\Main drive
    D:\Partition \WindowsXP
    . . . . . . . . . and all files from the
    . . . . . . . . . . . -> DOCS
    . . . . . . . . . . . . cd contained
    . . . . . . . . . . . -> i386
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . therein....
    . . . . . . . . . . . -> Support
    . . . . . . . . . . copied here
    . . . . . . . . . . . -> ValueAdd
    . . . . . . . . . . . -> Upgrades
    drivers for your cards
    E:\CDRom with WindowsXP

    This is my location for Setup.
    X:\WindowsXP\SETUP.EXE. Go there and install and the computer will NEVER ever ask you again for an installation CD, it is always inserted.. on your harddrive.

    sorry for the extreme detail, but too much time in the Army.. Was a teacher in mlitary for awhile, and had to go to great lengths for some people to learn, just an old habit.. No I was NOT a DI

    LET me know how it goes.. sincerely. Take care and have fun.:)
