I currently run Zonealarm Pro 6 and Ad-Aware SE 1.06r1 on WinXP Home with SP2 installed.

When I run Ad-Aware it picks up 5 critical tracking cookies. These are always the same ones for example from "statcounter.com." I entered
"statcounter.com" into Zonealarms Privacy section and blocked all cookies etc but it hasn't made any difference, the tracking cookie still reappears.

Is this the correct way of blocking these types of tracking cookie?

dishon--Adding to the link that charlesvar gave you, statcounter is in the IESpyAds list so using it will allow you to easily put it into your Restricted Sites.
You could also consider a HOSTS file, which will not allow access, at all, to certain sites. (Restricted Sites permits access but does not allow use of ActiveX or Scripting and prevents cookies.)
    http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/
You can populate a HOSTS file using the download here.
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Of course you can enter statcounter.com manually into both HOSTS and Restricted Sites, but the lists make it easier and have many baddie sites. Just remember that when you visit Websites and see the messages "Page cannot be Displayed" or "Action Cancelled" in several places on the page. You are not missing anything but ads. The rest of the page will display properly.
