Blocking Bittorrent Access

    Hi i would like to find out how do i limit the Bittorrent access to my router in my home? currently my bro sometime annoys me as he uses Bittorrent heavily, the router that i am using is Belkin N wireless network..

    Blocking? Almost (if not totally) impossible.

    Bittorrent supports TCP and HTTP protocols. It uses TCP port from 6881 to 6889 to login, search and download files.

    If the TCP ports from 6881 to 6889 are all blocked, then it will use HTTP port 80 to download files.

    Because it can communicate via HTTP and can switch port automatically, you can not block it by disabling the ports in the firewall. As Bittorrent has no central server, you can't block it by blocking server IP address.

    The best way is to use QoS to throttle the traffic. To read more o QoS, read Qos MiniHowto

    You could also get your brother to adjust the download rate in the bittorent preferences so you can share the available bandwidth.
