Hi All, ................ How can I prevent the inclusion of www.google-analytics.com from interfering with the call up of many sites including Windowsbbs. The effect is to hold an intermediate screen for long periods of time. The only way to break the hangup is to use the Esc key. The unfinished desired-site loading occurs in spite of having the full address for Google-Analytics included in my HOSTS file and although this problem may not be a malware problem, I'm looking for a way to eliminate this annoyance. Any ideas?

Exactly. So you shouldn't have posted it there, as it has nothing to do with malware.

Aire, I recommended that he post in the malware forum as it sounds like a google redirecting thing.

How would anyone know that it has nothing to do with malware?

The poster said so? And from the description it is pretty clear.

OP has blocked google-analytics.com in his hosts file. This will give him delays on a LOT of sites that use Google Analytics to keep track of their statistics (as I do here).

There is no "fix" for this, other than to remove google-analytics.com from the hosts file.

Admin. and Bmoore11129, ........... Since my last post I have been trying to find a solution to the google-analytics problem. This (G-A) is one of many sites which cause incomplete loading of a requested site. It is one of the more common and at that time considering the possible causes I said:

which was based on several runs of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Avast Anti-virus which showed no infections. Now I'm not sure.

My system locks up with other addresses showing in the activity bar at the lower left corner and in most cases clicking the ESC key removes it with the word, "Stopped" showing. But then I wonder if the desired address is completely loaded. Now I get the impression that things have worsened. Normally I use Firefox but recently Internet Explorer (Ver. 6) showed a screen stating that a site was corrupted. IE now has incomplete loading the same as FF.

I have completely removed FF including any bookmarks and re-installed it several times but still the incomplete loading persists. Something has a grip on my computer and I still need help. Any Ideas?

Easy: delete your HOSTS file. I'm pretty sure that will take care of it!

    Admin.,

Arie, Thank you for your concise reply. I followed your advice and removed the Hosts file. Results have generally improved, but occasionally I find some notices in the lower-left Activity bar and always accompanied with a combined cursor arrow-hourglass combination. Clicking the Esc key removes the hourglass and in some cases results in the word "Done" appearing the Activity bar or in other cases the word "Stopped" appears there.

Let me show you three arbitrary posts on the WindowsXP forum and the notice from the Activity bar below:

    restore factory defaults
    Read pagead2.googlesyndication.com

    No Internet Connection
    Transferring data from base.googlehosted.com

    Vertical Taskbar On Desktop
    Transferring data from creative.cc-dt.com

Clicking Esc on those three resulted in a "Stopped" condition but the following post had no notice except "Done. "

    d:\mplay.com" is not recognized ........
    Done

Interesting that when I went back and re-opened the three above posts, they all came up with "Done" in the Activity bar.

Back to the Hosts file, if I may, removal of it is contrary to my understanding of one of its purposes, Blocking. The link below:
devotes considerable space to that subject.

    The following link
also appears to support the use of the Hosts file for blocking unwanted sites. So right now I'm still confused and my computer does not operate as it did previously.
