Blank Screen after XP Splash Screen

Ok, new to the forums.

I have an Asus P4PE been running fine for the last 2.5 years.

the video card is Ati Radeon 9500 Pro and nothing has changed since i had built the computer. I have sp2 and havent installed anything but winxp updates from Microsoft.

about 3 days ago, i booted on my machine, after the winxp splash screen, the monitor went blank. I can look at the logs in safe mode and see nothing. ive deleted drivers for the video card and can use basic drivers (but not for gaming). ive dwl the latest drivers from ati for the video card and still the same probs.


ive got a second harddrive, reloaded xp on it.. installed sp2 ...etc... and still same prob...

ruled out viruses..but i dont think thats the prob... ive read on the ati forums but nothing is correct. plz help

i now just installed winxp ..with only the sp1...hoping that works...

btw, i have a cheap old video card...and i cant get high graphics like i can with my ati.... but i think its video card prob..or sp2 probs...

ill find out soon...if its sp2 probs..dwl the latest ati drivers...and installing them..will respond ASAP

Finally Figured It Out

WELL,

after installing fresh for the 3rd time WinXP w/ SP1, i didnt even attempt to install SP2 and i RECOMMEND that you don't. I had SP2 running on my machine for about a month and no probs till recently. I've installed the latest ati cat. drivers...and everything is running fine...

so any suggestion of unistalling SP2???? well... control panel... remove programs......BINGO found it..
