Black screen with white cursor.

    Hi all newbie here, desktop crashed last night and i am now stuck with this black screen, tried safe mode etc etc but keep getting same screen, Is there any hope?:confused:

    There's always hope :)

    When the computer boots is there evidence of continued activity (hard drive light flashing/continuous for a while) immediately after the black screen/flashing cursor appears?

    Hi and thanks for replying,
    yeah the l.e.d is flashing constantly after the black screen appears. for what its worth i cant c.a.d. i can move the cursor but thats about it. and the cursor is on all the time not flashing.

    I suspect that you may have a hard drive problem.

    If you go into the BIOS is the hard drive recognised?

    I suggest you run the drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic software - DOS version from a bootable CD. You may need to open the case to determine the make/model no. of the drive - this info may be shown in the BIOS.
