I am trying to install a software program on my xp machine. The software is an iso file burned onto a disk with PowerIso. I installed it on my other machine running xp and it works perfectly, but when I try to install it on this one, the screen turns black and has d//blinking cursor. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

I am trying to install a software program and it works fine on my other computer. What does the black screen and d// blinking cursor mean and how can I fix it? Is it a problem with the computer or with the software?

The computer boots fine, but when I put in the disk, it goes to a black screen with the d// cursor blinking. I am installing Rosetta Stone.

I'd say your computer was OK have you tried Rosetta Stone support for assistance with your installation issue?

My original Rosetta Stone disk broke. I had made copies of my programs and burned them with PowerIso. Rosetta Stone support cannot help because it is not the original disk. I do not understand why it would work on one xp machine, but not on another.

Even if PC's look identical they can be totally different, what I can't understand is why the installer is switching to command line mode, is this an exact copy of your software or is it possible something else has interfered with it?

Some cracked programs can cause this problem (in which case I can't help you). I'd still suggest you go back to Rosetta Stone and ask for assistance or at the very least a replacement disc.

It is an exact copy of the original and I installed the exact same disk into my other xp machine and it worked perfectly. I read on another board that it may be the graphics card, but I'm not sure how to tell. Should I try to install it in safe mode?

You could try, after that I'd look at cleaning the CD/DVD drive.

It's still worth explaining the situation to Rosetta Stone though and asking for a replacement disc or at least some support since it's an exact copy. They should replace the disc for a minimum cost.

I'm afraid that's about all the assistance I can give you but if anyone else has an idea I'm sure they'll chip in.
