Problem: After applying MS updates, Black Screen after reboot
    Hardware: Toshiba P775-S7164 Laptop
    Software O/S: Window 8.1 Pro
    Using Stardock: Start8, Modern MIX

After applying Microsoft updates this week, one of them (I do not know which one) and I rebooted, my display screen is black. I have reloaded the drivers for my display Intel(R) Graphic 3000, rebooted and still have black display screen. I can boot in SAFE mode and the display screen is OK. I am using SAFE Mode to submit this problem. I am using Windows 8.1 Pro as my O/S. I have changed my resolution through the Control Panel, but that did not resolve the issue either. I have tried (In SAFE Mode) to go through recovery, Windows updates, but all I get is a loop and it will not display the MS updates so that I can uninstall the last update(s). I logged onto the Toshiba support page and reloaded the driver for my P775-S7164 Satillite laptop and doing this has not resolved my issue either. I also have tried to use a recovery and boot from the last good date of the O/S but that menu will not list any dates. Any ideas of what to do?

Found solution at answers.microsoft.com under Black Screen

There was a conflict in the display settings after the update

    Windows + R
    RUN MSCONFIG then click OK
On the GENERAL TAB click on "Normal Startup" then click OK
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click "Restart "

It worked and my display screen now works
