    Hello,

I was on my motherboards manufactures website and saw that my motherboard had updates that i didnt have.

Heres my question. Should i flash the BIOS with the updates one-by-one or should i flash it with the latest BIOS all at once?

    Thanks.

Providing you know the risks (albeit small) of flashing your BIOS. then check for any recommendations on the website. Usually it's fine to skip a number of versions when updating. How many versions behind are you?
I think my Laptop recommends if more than 2 or 3 apart then update incrementally. Never seen that recommendation for any of my desktops though. But I think thats because it is updated whilst in windows, and depends of some newer features having been implemented?

My Gigabyte board (dual BIOS) has a BIOS flash utility called QFlash that works a treat.

If your M/B has dual BIOS then you have a safety net in case of the unexpected, otherwise keep your fingers crossed you don't have a power failure during the minute or two of the update. ;)

The latest BIOS update has all the features of earlier updates. If you need the functions in the latest or intermediate updates, then by all means, flash.

If you don't need the newer functions in any of those BIOS there's no need to upgrade, and some risk, as Paul said.

Maybe MOBO's a bit like me sparrow? ;)
I just like having the newer BIOS date appear in the BIOS boot screen. I've never had a flameout on 4 different M/B's, but am FULLY aware of the risks, and are prepared to accept them. One update I did earlier in the piece sped up the HD throuput. An undocumented improvement. I guess that's why I always load any new BIOS updates.

"to be on the safe side ill update one-by-one "

Not safe at all! Flashing BIOS image replaces previous BIOS completely, similarly to writing an image to your HDD from a recovery disk or with Ghost or similar. Therefore you'll be taking 3-4 times the risk and accomplishing nothing more than practice flashing. Whoever suggested that lacks understanding.

Agree with you sparrow regarding the risks of incremental BIOS upgrades.
Regarding the "suggestion" of upgrading incrementally. From my earlier post;-

I can assure you, that alternate suggestion wasn't due to a lack of understanding. ;)

    Regards,

    Paul

Thank you guys for your suggestions.

I went to a third opinion and they told to update all at once.

And i did. Nothing bad Happened. Just flashed my motherboard and am up to date.

Now i can finally Overclock my memory and CPU/

    That's fine sparrow,
As some M/B's can be flashed from within windows or from within the current BIOS (QFlash), or from a system floppy. I guess there are different recommendations.

Good to see MOBO's running fine. :)
