I would uninstall all those devices , reboot and let Windows install them again. They should(?) be reinstalled automatically, particularly so if they were running well previously.

Is that SCSI DVD-ROM correct? You may need to find the SCSI controller and uninstall that as well. SCSI controllers and optical ATA/IDE drives run on the same set of drivers (called ASPI).

There are a few other methods if resetting the drivers if those do not work.

What burning program do you use?

I use Nero Burning Rom, part of the Ultra 7 suite. However I had removed that because the OS refused to even install with it there. Maybe some left over registry or dlls were causing trouble.

I did a reformat (it was due anyway), and now I dual boot, but even after the format my CD drives weren't recognized. I took the tower case off, and they weren't even connected. So sometime in the span of last night and early, early this morning, on a tower that hasn't moved an inch in over six months, my two drives disconnected. Figure that one out.

But everything is working fine now.

    Oh, spooky! :D

I can only think it might be a heat-expansion thing. Maybe check or monitor your temps.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Believe me, that was the first thing I did! Once I reconnected the drives, I opened up the BIOS, and the temperature seems fine. Everything in the BIOS seems fine.

    Which I still don't understand. It's, I-- strange.

Before I reformatted or posted this topic, I popped my XP CD into the drive and rebooted, and tried to boot from the CD, and it did just fine. Both drives were fine in that regard. And that's what is weird. I can understand Windows not recognizing them if something got ******* up, but for the computer to recognize two drives that weren't attached is beyond me. And it's not like the drives had come loose, the cables were not attached period.
