I have a new WD500g HD with xp pro recently installed. When partitioning my bios would not allow the full use. Disc management in xp has it as c drive capacity 127.99gb ntfs, and the other 337.77 gb is unallocated. I created an extended partition and the 337.77 now reads free space.
My question is am I getting the full use of this drive now because under disk 0it has Basic and 465.76gb but the volume info is still capacity 127.99gb or is there another step? TIA

There is one more step to take ....

Right click in the Free Space > New Logical Drive and follow the Wizard through. Set the partition size to the maximum which is set as default or enter a value of your choice if you wish to create more than one partition.

Before you do the above I suggest you Right click on your optical drive(s) and change the drive letter so that the drives you create on the hard drive are contiguous - C:\, D:\, etc.

If you do not change the drive letter(s) of your optical drives they will show in Windows Explorer after your C:\ drive and before your 'new' drives. FWIW I always assign the diive letters X & Y to my two optical drives.

BTW - it will be a limitation in the BIOS which prevents it from seeing the full 500GB.
