    Hi,

I've been using Acronis 7 to create backup images for my WINXP SP2 system. I would back up the images to an external hard drive. Worked great, had to restore a few times and everything was perfect.

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 TLS on a separate partition of my C: Drive so I can boot into WINXP or Ubuntu.

I want to continue to backup my images to an external hard drive. What is the best method for backing up images that contain both WINXP & Ubuntu? Not sure about Acronis, I've read where it will mess up the Ubuntu bootloader (which I could probably re-install once I figure it out.)

I'm just curious if anyone knows of an easy way to do this? Should I do separate backups for each partition or is there a way to do the whole thing at once?

I've already googled and didn't find an "easy" answer.

    Thanks!

    1. There's no need to image a linux installation, just gzip the partitions.
    2. Image the Windows partitions when in Ubuntu using Partimage.

    See:

    http://www.partimage.org/Main_Page

You can also continue to use Acronis to image Windows but it may not support imaging GRUB, in which case if you get rid of Ubuntu and roll back to a Windows image you would have to uninstall GRUB, boot from the Windows cd Recovery Console and restore the MBR.
