Best flash memory data recovery software under $40

This is not just for recovering photos. I store general data on flash memory, not just photo-related, on various types of media--usb flash, SD Cards, xD cards, CF, etc.

What is the best data recovery for this purpose under $40 -- or do I need to go to more $ to get a really effective program?

Free would be nice; but, usually, there are limitations to the uses of free programs.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. As a test, create files with different extensions, e.g. doc, jpg, txt, etc. then delete them. Run Recuva, select a drive in the drop-down menu and click Scan to list everything > tick Filename > Recover to retrieve every deleted file.

Remember, of course, that the sooner you realise that a file has been deleted, the more chance you have of recovering it before it gets overwritten.
