ZoneAlarm had a great privacy tool for Windows XP that cleaned "footprints" from Explorer, Firefox and Outlook Express, including Newsgroups. Since Vista the ZoneAlarm folks do not have an available privacy option.

What software out there will work in Vista to eliminate history and other traces of web activity as well as ZoneAlarm?

Thanks for the help in advance.l

CCleaner is a good cleanup program for Vista. It cleans temporary files from windows and other programs, as well as browsing history/files.

    sandbox

If you are running 32 bit Vista a nice little tool is
    Sandboxie

Not only does the browser stuff disappear when you kill the sandbox, but
disk writes are redirected to the sandbox. I find it much simpler than trying
to filter out stuff as it goes through your browser. You can set up folders
for recovery from the sandbox. For instance when I download into one of the folders and its subfolders I get a dialog to recover to the folder with the same name outside the sandbox. One extra click. I think it's generally a better approach than getting stuff on your system then trying to clean it off later when somebody finds out it's harmful(an entry in a virus database that comes out after the fact.)

About the only real fly in the ointment is the Sandboxie driver doesn't like some disk drives. But I suspect it crashes on older rather than newer drives.
If it installs ok then it should work fine.

One other proviso, by default the install sets it up to start with Windows bootup and sets the service to be on by default. If you do a lot of DVD burning it can interfere. But it only takes a couple of minutes to change the settings so that the service runs manually. I kill the sandbox and stop the service before doing any burning.

The free one works.. the paid version has a few more convenience functions.
