Agree, 400W is the sweet spot. As for which brand. Depends on money input. ;) Personally I've had no problems with generic brands such as Codegen. I've also had a couple of Aopen PS's with no problems. Providing the components and build are of reasonable quality and the output is steady under expected loads, then going for an Antec or similar is not always necessary. Nothing wrong with Antec though. Just that here in AUS. I haven't been able to justify around $100 difference in some supplies.

It's NOT the wattage posted on the power supply that really matters.

You need to know the AMPS the PS can deliver.
How many amps on the 3.3Volt "Rail ", how many on the 5Volt "Rail ", and how many on the 12Volt "Rail ".

    These are the important numbers!!!

Enermax is always a good choice. Compare Enermax's amps with any other power supply before you buy.

Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

Watts and amps can be directly corrolated. In my experience I have had the best luck with Enermax or Antec PSUs.

PC Power and Cooling makes the very best power supplies. Nuf said, end of story, dat's the facts jack. Have I ever bought one? Um...no. Know anyone who has? No, but I'm sure they make lots of money if they did!

I.E. they're the Rolls Royce of power supplies. I highly recommend the Antec Trupower 480W. What do I use for standard non-demanding builds? The Thermaltake Silent-something 420W. Do I always ask rhetorical questions of myself when replying to posts? Is that a problem? ;)

I've never used a Thermaltake, but I know people who have and not had trouble. I kinna like that Enermax with the clear box and blue lights in it. :D
