I routed my PC through a Belkin, 4 Port, wired router several months ago using a DSL internet connection and it worked fine. Last month, I moved and changed from DSL to cable, uninstalled NIS 2004 and installed AVG and ZoneAlarm.

When I hooked the PC to the Belkin router via the cable modem, it wouldn't access the internet. I tried the Belkin installation process using the same CD I used for the DSL connection, but the installation won't complete. At one point the installation wizard indicates multiple NICs were found but only lists one, a NETGEAR FA31X PCI Adapter 20.20.20.70. As I go through the installation process, I get a message indicating that the router can't communicate and asks me to select a different NIC, but only the one is listed. If I select it and start the process again, it simply keeps me in a loop. All of the appropriate router lights come on except the "Connected" light and it simply flashes.

I tried the Belkin site but couldn't locate my particular problem and an e-mail to Belkin went unanswered. Can any one help? Thanks.

Reset your router (not familiar with Belkin but usually a paerclip sized hole) by pushing in the reset button. Then start from scratch and try again.

    ;)

Thanks for the idea Rockster. When you mentioned "Reset ", I thought that was going to be the answer. However, I went through the process a couple of times after resets with the same results. Thanks any way.

You might want to go to
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all and find your ISP some cable companies use DHCP, and need your MAC Address also, you are probably using PPPOE since you were using DSL. Or if the cable company supports routers they will have instructions on the website.

Belated Response - I forgot about this thread. I pursued the proposed fixes and was unable to use the router. I just got a new computer and was able to install and use the router. Apparently was a problem inside my old beast. Thanks to all for your input.
