When using Thunderbird as a pop3 email program is there a option to change "To" to "Bcc" as default?

When I click on individual address to "add" to the "recipients" of a new email by default Thunderbird chooses "To "... is there a way to have each address by default be "Bcc" and not "To "?

If I change the drop down box to "Bcc" it defaults back to "To" when adding recipients to the email.

I did download a "Add to Bcc" button but it requires a extra step using the ctrl key to randomly select names than hitting the "Add to Bcc" button to add all names at once vs just clicking on each name once when adding address to the email.

I looked at the program options and found nothing addressing this issue.

Is there by chance some unlisted registry change I can make?

    thanks,
    denny

You don't want BCC as a default, To: should always be the default. I use the add-to-bcc extension all the time, I just select a name in the list and then click the bcc button.

I also have separate lists setup that I mail to frequently, I just select the list and hit the bcc button.

Thanks Tony but unless there's some major disadvantage by having Bcc as my default, that is what I would prefer to use.

I would rather not go through the extra motions by first highlighting each person than using the Add Bcc button either as a group or individually.

Having the option just to double click once on a address and having it automatically added as Bcc rather than holding down the ctrl key and clicking each address than clicking the Add Bcc button is preferred in my case.

I do have a "Bcc" address groups that I could use... but in some cases I have the need to be more select, and rather than going through the extra editing steps to customize the list each time its needed or delete the "Bcc" address not wanted from the email address area I think the Bcc by default option would work best for me. One quick double click on each address and it done.

When a more personalized email is drafted it's likely to have only 1 address listed. Changing the default "Bcc" back to "To" is the lesser of two evils in my book.

A side benefit of not showing all the email address, (especially on jokes seeing that most people just "forward" the mail rather than editing out the previous recipients before sending it on) is that for sure nobody is going to harvest the address for unscrupulous reasons..

I don't really see the reasoning behind your response... ( You don't want BCC as a default, To: should always be the default. )

I understand that's the way the program is suppose to work... I'm just looking for a option to customized it to my needs...

I'm looking at the "about:config" options to see if anything jumps out as changeable..

One major disadvantage will be that many junk mail filters will filter emails that do not have the recipient in the "To" field - unless of course the sender (ie you) has been whitelisted. I know mine are... But then my email filters are very ruthless... I hate junk mail with a passion..

    Regards,
    Don.

Thanks Westside for the reference to ...
"How to Add To, Cc and Bcc Recipients Easily in Mozilla Thunderbird. "

I've been using that method all along, but though to streamline it a bit to a single operation requiring only to double click on each recipient.. keeping one hand free for my coffee..

Thanks Don for the "major disadvantage" issue.... I hadn't thought much about that hiccup till now..

Guess I'll need to send identical messages and have everyone check to see if their filtering is blocking out the "Bcc" message. (1st message address as "To" and the same 2nd message address as "Bcc ".

If they only get the "To" message than one of us will need to make some changes.

Maybe I'm over thinking this issue... anybody that's bent on harvesting email address has their pick of the crop.. given that most people just "forward" email's without "editing out" previous recipients, and maybe the answer is just let the filtering option do what it's suppose to do..

Thanks to all for the assist in.... "Filtering" this "Bcc" by default issue..

    Tony ...

I used to use that extension also, but I just checked my TB extensions, and I no longer have it installed. I may be mistaken, but I believe the "Add to Bcc:" button has been added to the Contacts sidebar in current versions of TB.

One other thing following on from what I said about the recipient not being in the "To" field. Another major spam flag is when the "To" field is blank. To get around this, you only need to insert your own email address in the "To" field and send it to yourself as well.

    Don.
