When I hover the mouse pointer over an icon on the toolbar the balloon pop up does not rise enough for me to read it. Although I do know what the program is sometimes I get a pop up associated with a update and I am unable to read it.

Is there a tweak or something to get these pop ups to pop up a little higher?

    Thanks.

If you're seeing what I think you are seeing, it's is a bug of some sort that causes this. I've never been able to find a fix for it but you can get it to work again by right clicking on the taskbar>properties and put a check by the line that says auto-hide the taskbar. Click apply, then OK. Then go back and uncheck the line. After you do this, the tooltips should should be on top again. At least until the next time it messes up :). Then you just have to do this again.

Hi Zander. The tooltips appear but not high enough to read. They look to hide behind the task bar. I tried your suggestion but it didn't have any affect on the problem. This is at most a minor inconvenience but only poses a problem when I would like for it to work properly. I'm going to try a reboot and see if that helps. Thanks.

Edit: Reboot made no difference. I didn't really think it would but I tried anyway, Never know.

    Hi Duge,

    Try this:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/how-to-fix-system-tray-tooltips-not-displaying-in-windows-xp/

Found this but don't know if it works:
    http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=10

As stated this is a known nuisance/bug that has been around forever. It's one of those things that seems to rear up from time to time for no real reason other than to drive you crazy. Some have also reported that using key combo of shift+windows key+m clears it up. If all else failed a reboot always fixed it.

    Some have found this works:
Taskbar - Tool Tips Hidden Behind the Task Bar: FIX

Go to Start/All Programs: Hover over any program listed, right click and select Sort by Name. Repeat once more. All done!

Hi Ann. I didn't realize this was a problem with Xp in general. I thought that maybe my installing/uninstalling programs over the years was the most probable cause.

The key combo you mentioned removed the tips completely. That was one solution. Also I've had no luck with reboots. The tips always remained hidden.

What did work for me was the first link you posted. But I had to leave the 'keep taskbar on top' unchecked for the tips to show properly. I just have to minimize the browser to see the taskbar again. Not sure how big of a nuisance this is going to cause. I'll just have to wait and see. I'll go with the lesser of the two evils. :)

    Thanks for the reply. :)

OOPS! My mistake. Sorry, it's been a while since I've used XP. It is the keep taskbar on top, not the hide taskbar. Thanks for helping out Ann.:)
