    I had to restore my HD (thanks to zonealarm 5.0) and it worked use
    Acronis True Image (not a plug, BTW).

    After the restore and a check to see if all OK, i ran the bags8000.reg but
    it didn't take. Ran it a couple more times with a reboot after but still nogo.
    Different windows still look like the default 3/4 box.

    Any ideas?

    Have you manually set the windows the way you want but the changes aren't being saved on rebooting? The registry file you ran only allows more customized settings; it doesn't actually do the customizations.
