I copied this file from here but when i tried to merge(?) it (double click it) into the reg i got an error msg of:

The specified file is not a registry script
You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor

    what did i do wrong?

    thanks,
    savagcl

Try again from here under Folder Views - Keep Settings. There is a downloadable Reg file.

went to kelly's site (thanks, i had lost the site id).

The "Apply to all folders" will not work automatically meaning you have to
open each folder/drive, set it to what you want then it stays that way
    (sometimes).

I didn't fins a downloadable file but i copied this:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSaveSettings "=dword:00000000

So now the question is: is the first line needed (Windows........) ?
And is there a naming convention (besides .reg) for saving the above?

    Thanks for the help, PeteC,
    clif
PS: I hate playing with the reg - know just enough to be dangerous!!

There is a link on the page I posted ....

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm - line 2 which downloads bags8000.reg the contents of which are .....

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSaveSettings "=dword:00000000

Simpler/safer to download that file rather than play about in the Registry :)
