Can anyone out there tell me exactly how many directories, folders and files there's supposed to be on an Ultimate 64 OEM installation disk? I have a brand new OEM disk that seems to be missing some files - and yes - the disk is genuine. Somewhere on MS support site I saw something about a file or folder called Panther, under the Sources directory. My disk does not have it. I'm wondering how many other files I'm missing. I'm trying to install to a new system that is fully Vista compatible and keep getting "No OS on disk - preplace with proper disk and hit any key "

    Thanks

    Hi,
I think that some more details about your Vista capable system would help. Mobo, BIOS, CPU etc..

    Of course, Roger:

    MSI P965 Platinum MoBo
    Intel P4 Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz Processor
Award Bios w/latest update (won't know version 'till I get back to the PC tonight)
    Saphire Cross-Fire Video Card w/512MB
2ea WD5000YS SATA II HDD set for on-board Raid mirroring
    4GB OCZ DDR2 - PC5300 Ram
    Plextor PX-755SA SATA DVD+/-R/RW

Any help would be appreciated. This is a brand new system I'm building, and so far, I can't even get the disk to be read.

    Thanks

    Steve,

I can't recall the name of the reseller, and I'm not at the PC in question, but the disk was purchased via eBay from a (supposed) Microsoft reseller. The disk came with full factory seals, labels, holograms, etc. It is very definitely a genuine product. Since it is an OEM version, and having purchased over the net, I doubt I will be able to return it to the reseller. But I don't even want to try until I find out if my suspicions are correct, that maybe it is a bad disk.

    Thanks

I have seen two different types of vista discs, the ones offered at newegg.com for new pc builders and the normal retail one like I purchased at the store. :)

Thanks, all, but I think that I've figured it out. I just found out that an OEM disk requires the prior installation of Microsoft OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) available at 'http://www.microsoft.com/oem/sblicense/OPK' It's a 983MB file and I'm downloading it right now. If this works, I will post a new reply to let you know.

    Thanks
