bad download

My friend has xp and some how has some bad stuff happening. The ie browser wont change to the home page he wants. It sets the default to freednshost.info and wont let you change it. Also it has installed some desktop shortcuts that wont delete. Ive tried adaware and that didnt help. I cant find any way to remove this thing. Im starting to think of using system restore but am saving that as a last resort. Any help is apprecieated. thanks

 

Try this 1 2 3 punch, having all browser windows closed.
First use CWShedder, using the Fix Option, reboot when it is done.
Install Spybot, update it first, then Scan for Problems, have it remove everything already checked off.
Unzip HijackThis into it's own folder, do the Scan and post the log on here. It will be looked at, and advice will be given.
The first two items will remove a lot of bad things, and the third will show what is left.
