I am upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Pro. When Setup runs, ERROR "The new computer name entered is not properly formatted....." I have an error in the Computer name... (has a space in it) The setup won't finish. I try to fix it but it errors out again (after restarting) and comes back to the same screen and the computer name with the error in it again.. HELP ME!! thanks...

Am guessing it's still bootup in 98. Have you tried renaming the computer there?

I can't boot the machine at all... When I go thru F8 the only option is Windows 2000 Pro. It asks me for the disk. When I put it in, it says "setup is being restarted" and goes thru the setup until it gets to the Computer Name and Admin passwork screen and errors out.

Did you do a clean install (format, blow all the old stuff away, install) or were you trying to upgrade over 98?
