I have a HP pc ,running XP home.I ran Spybot the other day and alot of entries came up from BackWeb,which comes preinstalled.I removed all the entries that were listed on the Spybot scan, now an error message keeps popping up.The message states "Cannot load target dll (C:\Program Files\BackWeb\BackWeb Client\6.2.3.66\Program\frcom.dll "error code 126).I feel BackWeb is of no use to me and would like to completely delete from my pc.It has an uninstall but when I click on it ,a pop-up states "uninstall aborted, cannot load resources ".The program is not listed in the add/remove program list.Does anyone know how to remove this program,or how to stop the pop-ups?

    Hi Rackster

Several ways to go about it..
    this is what I did..
search HP for backweb and include your model number, find out how to install it again.. each model might use a slightly differant version ,, then turn it off ,,,>uninstall it and after a restart cleanup the leftovers with SpyBot

heres the page with our PC .. and instucts to reinstall..
    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/hub_searc...h05170&prodId=hppavilion24371&cc=us#P175_4971

Note near the top of page enter your model etc
and in the lower section baclweb..
    HOGWASH !!! :)

some other programs you have might use it to and so the uninstal would or might affect them,,
    such as
    F-Secure AV >>Updater
    KODAK Software >>Updater
    Logitech >>>>>>>>Updater

    Let us know

    Lonny,

Couldn't find anything like the page you linked to under my model so I ended up calling HP. They had me disable everything in msconfig, reboot, then went back and selected 6 items to enable. They also had me right click and delete the BackWeb folder.Well after doing all this,my internet connection wouldn't work. This was because of a firewall problem, but before realizing this,HP had me do a restore to an earlier date and then do the msconfig all over again.Anyways I'm not so sure deleting the folder did anything, but the restore put the folder back in program files. When I mentioned this to HP,they replied, "It didn't matter because BackWeb had been disabled. "In a nutshell, the pop-ups have stopped.....so far.But later on my firewall said BackWeb.exe is trying to access the internet so I just blocked it.And I'm reluctant to run Spybot for fear I'll start the whole mess again. Also there is nothing in the BackWeb folders, just subfolders with nothing in them.

One last thing...pages now take longer to load...does BackWeb have anything to do with this?

Mind if I ask what model and number ?

If I remember correctly backweb was scatted all over the PC (this is a 6746C pavilion)C:\Program Files\Common Files

    had things in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data
    and C:\WINDOWS\All Users
    and the HP folder
(not going to bring up the registry) :)

do a file search for backweb.exe , where is it ?

Its was really just an annoyance to me,, having useless and unnecessary startups,, But your on XP so resources shouldn't matter,, and since you can just block it with a firewall you might not want to persure this any further ?

meanwhile you can just exclude backweb within SpyBots settings
open it in advanced mode > settings > products
and place a check next to backweb light

"pages now take longer to load" I dont see how if you have blocked it

    Regards
    Lonny

This pc is a HP pavillion 526x
    Celeron 2.4GHz
512 MB Ram (upgrade fron 256)

I connect to the internet thru a cable modem and pages loaded almost instantaneously, now its taking 10 seconds or so.And just to let you know the memory upgrade was done right after I bought the pc last november,so thats not the problem.

    Lonny,

I had actually done all the things your link suggested. But I decided to look at msconfig again tonight and backweb was listed...it wasn't before....so I unchecked it.I know I stated earlier the HP rep had told me it was disabled but it wasn't listed like it was tonight.Tonight it was spelled right out...backweb!I had loaded some cam software last night, pretty sure thats what made it listed.Anyways after the reboot everything seems ok and the web pages are loading fast once again. Thanks for your help,it was much appreciated.
