    Hi,

My computer had been malfunctioning and I called Dell Support who told me I needed to get my harddrive replaced. So I bought an external harddrive to transfer all my files before I get the new harddrive installed. I was just wondering what's the best way to copy/backup everything onto the external? It's a 500GB USB 2.0 7200RPM External Hard Drive Seagate ...

Also, I have Vista Business and I know there's the Backup and Restore Center but I'm not sure if I use Automatic Backup or the Complete PC Backup, considering there's something wrong with my current harddrive?

Thanks so much for your help!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

I would simply use copy n paste.

I believe the built in backup function will give you greif. I'm pretty sure it keeps an index on the hard drive...When it isn't found on the new drive you'll have troubles restoring.
